Windsurf

While I agree that just dumping the puzzle instructions into an llm and getting the right answer at least doesn’t align with the spirit of Advent of Code (though it does show how crazy good LLMs are getting), I’m using this as an opportunity to try out the new Windsurf AI IDE and am driving the AI code editing in it to help me write the code to solve each puzzle (I’m using Ruby). My goal is to develop the muscle memory for the tool so I can write code quickly. I’m still generally thinking through the puzzles, but being able to just write out plain English logic, get code generated, ask for it to be well documented, quickly refactor things to be generally reusable, etc, is just fantastic and how all software development should be done in this day and age frankly. Such an accelerator to problem solving.

I switched to Antigravity, not because of this issue but because the limited use free models were actually better. I also already pay Google monthly for other services.

hey sorryjust saw this. i do think its majority serial processing, BUT, parallel calling the same tools also gets issues that i honestly havent spent the time to dig into (something something locks and threading). all i know is ive been stuck in very very super slow/tool calls myself in Windsurf/other AI IDEs and that was a drag. for another take on latency attribution see https://x.com/silasalberti/status/1979310181424206143

Not gonna read all that because honestly ur title is enough, it’s true. Im done defending them because they’re not giving anything anymore that others are not. Several other products r giving us a significantly better experience than this at the same price point or cheaper. Genuinely who thought all this was a good idea? They have 0 unique selling point, the only special thing it does to users that others don’t is give us a weekly AND daily limit 😂 who thought users want to use this, and throw MONEY at this? You couldn’t PAY me to use this shit anymore
